What We Do
We offer a range of services to suit language development at any age and stage, in small groups or one-to-one at our school on Marlborough’s award-winning High Street and online.
We are here to support you with our regular Spanish, English, French and Italian lessons, bespoke workshops, exciting conversation, film, food and book clubs and sociable cultural drinks evenings using a highly effective blend of practical teaching methods, exercises and games, and innovative cultural experiences.

OK, so it's taken me ages to get round to writing this review AND I've written reams, BUT I'll make it worth your time to read :).This is a fantastic place to learn a language - I have been going to lessons with Sophie for French for a few years now and I can say that my facility with the language has come on leaps and bounds. As an older student with some prior experience I was never after a standard lesson learning grammar etc (although should you want this then Sophie can absolutely do this). I was after learning French idioms and learning how to speak in a more natural way. Sophie was able to adapt to this request easily and we have such a great time with me trying to talk on any number of subjects in a much more conversational style - and making some truly exceptional gaffes to boot. Sophie has provided many links to interesting topics, photocopies of French magazines and papers, and even sending me occasional idiomatic phrases by text as they occur to her.Short of actually living in the country, I cannot think of a better way to learn a language. I don't think I'll ever pass for French :), but I do feel far more confident in both listening and speaking since attending lessons. And I feel I continue to learn all the time. Can't recommend the school, and Sophie in particular, enough. If you truly want to learn, call them. You will not regret it. I can keep up with some of the French series, films and radio without being completely lost now :).As a final note I should also add that Sophie has managed to keep the lessons going over Zoom for the duration of the lockdowns, and although I do prefer actually being there in person, Sophie is very skilled at making you feel right at home on Zoom. She uses the online tools well, using them to enhance the lessons with whiteboards and slide sharing etc. To anyone who does worry about this style of teaching, I would urge you to give it a go - Sophie is a whizz at putting you at your ease. You will have a really good time and come out of each lesson with a real sense of accomplishment.

I have been having French lessons with Madame Sophie for over a year now, from the start of my GCSEs. We studied grammar in-depth , which helped me to gain an interesting understanding of the roots of the language, and allowed me to improve my all-round French greatly. We always communicate in French which helps with my pronunciation and listening skills, and prepares me speak abroad with confidence. I would highly recommend Sophie's course to anyone wanting to improve their French, whether at school level or as an adult, she is a delightful teacher and I always look forward to her lessons. Really enjoyed my Spanish classes with Maria both in person and via zoom. She immediately puts you at ease and creates a comfortable and fun way to learn Spanish whilst tailoring the classes to your goals. I'd highly recommend!

The French tutor, Sophie, is an outstanding teacher, full of infectious passion and joy for her subject. Sophie's lessons are one of the highlights of my 16 year old daughter's week and she will go on to study French A'level. As a highly intelligent and cultured native French speaker one is receiving the very best!

Nazaret, is an amazing Spanish tutor. She brings life to my lessons and makes learning Spanish exciting and explains it slowly and in detail which is very helpful. Before I had her, I started to dislike Spanish and it wasn't a nice experience. But ever since my first lesson with her I love it again. Thank you Naz!

Both teachers are kind and helpful. I had the pleasure to share some lessons with Maria, helping students with their pronounciation in Spanish lessons (as I am Spanish). Students are also willing to learn and welcoming. I just went for some weeks and I loved the experience. See you again someday!

Marlborough School of Languages offers high quality language tuitions or group classes by native speaking teachers with serious credentials in best schools around. Whether you are a beginner or just want to jog your skills for your next trip abroad or tutor kids for exams, they will be an excellent choice. They certainly were for my kids.

I’ve worked in school for over 20 years now, we had many language teachers come and go to teach the children. Then Sophie came, what a difference she has made, she is enthusiastic and made all the lessons fun, the children would ask , ‘when do we have french? When will Madame Sophie be back? They were very keen to colour pictures and label in french in their free time! I hadn’t seen this before, the children just loved her and french ... biggest disappointment was, she wasn’t around when my children were learning! I would recommend this learning school 100%, just watch your children blossom and enjoy the fun way Sophie teaches. You will see it yourself anyway, you just need to take the first step and give it a go as she’s amazing! 🇫🇷

I had the pleasure to have seen Sophie and Maria both in action at St Mary's and St John's and they are both great with people and kids, patient, fun and persistant. The only down side to this Spanish academy is that now I'll have to be very careful of what I said when I am in town, because surely lots of students will understand now!

Working in Education for the last 20 years I have seen Sophie teach many lessons to children. She is a natural kind, caring, fun teacher and totally inspires the children to learn. She makes every lesson challenging and really gets the children involved.
